Pumpkin Festival Canceled
That's not the sort of headline you want to see at the beginning of October with Halloween fast approaching. But this is what has happened in the small village of Michelmersh in Hampshire, England. The festival was started 39 years ago by the landlord of the Bear and Ragged Staff pub in Michelmersh and this is the first time that it has been canceled.
Because of the poor summer weather and unusually heavy rainfall this year which caused major flooding in some parts of the country it seems that the pumpkins have not grown properly. So with no worthwhile specimens to display the organizers of the annual show were left with no other choice than to call off the event.
Club member Jenny Gale said "Because of the bad summer weather and the cold nights we don't have any really good pumpkins to show this year. For some reason they just aren't growing properly. Hopefully next year things will have returned to normal and we will be able to hold the show again".
