Halloween Cards - A Few More Links

Here are three more sites that I've found:

http://halloweencostumesfordogs.bestinfofind.com/
I've mentioned this blog before but it has been moved to a new server so here is the new url.

http://horrorhalloween.blogspot.com/
"It was a dark night with no moon. And it was raining. Not cats and dogs, but little drops falling out of the sky. Little drops on a mission to confuse, to redirect you into the swamps and bogs..."

http://infant-halloween-costume-ideas.blogspot.com/
Lots of ideas for your childs halloween costume. So they look great this halloween.

Light Halloween Cards

Time for some light relief. No animated flash or ghastly music, just plain cartoons with a punchline. Here's where you find them: http://www.postcards.org/postcards/cards/0254/

Actually there's not a lot I can tell you about them without spoiling the jokes. Needless to say they include pumpkins, ghosts and a most unlikely looking creature called Ghoshzilla. The Grim Reaper is also featured and the last card appears to be completely black until you look closely.

Overall these are not as much fun as some of the others I have reviewed in previous posts, but worth it if you are looking for something different.

Scary Halloween Cards

It's time to get back to the scary. Well that's what Halloween is all about, isn't it? This group comes from http://www.funegreets.com/hallow/
Tread carefully with these. While there are some good halloween cards here, they are meant for a more mature audience, so you may find some of them rather too strong for your taste.

"Ghostbusters Want You" is a good introduction to this site. The ghostly music sets the scene, and then as you read the words you will feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

"Mother-in-Law's Halloween" has a harmless picture, but the words..

"Look up to the clouds,
Listen to their cackle,
Mother-in-laws at midnight
With their brooms and tackle..."

Send that to your Mother-in-Law if you dare!

"Halloween Old Hag" is even worse:

"Your belly is baggy,
Your boobs are saggy,
Your back is stooping,
You're past good looking..."

To finish try "Halloween Shock". This is a really scary idea and after you've seen this card, you'll never view your computer screen in the same way again!

Funny Halloween Cards

The title of this site gives you an idea of the sort of halloween cards that you can expect to see here:
http://www.funny-ecards.com/cards/halloween/index.html
There's not much to scare you, but plenty to make you laugh.

"There are no such things as Monsters" has a homely-looking mum reassuring her kids that they need not be scared since what they see as monsters are just figments of their imagination. But there's a nice twist in the tail at the end.

"Great Costume" carries on the theme of things being not quite what they seem. "High Gas Prices" gives the game away by its title. But if you want to be scared try "Carved Pumpkins" or "Open Coffin". For some light relief "Hit the witch with her broom" is good for a giggle.

Old Fashioned Halloween Cards

Dover Cards.com have an Old Fashioned range of halloween cards which will appeal particularly to the young. Cheerful children dressed as witches, lots of pumpkins and black cats.

Titles include "A Happy Halloween", "A Jolly Halloween", "A Merry Halloween", "A Thrilling Halloween" and "Halloween Greetings" give you an idea of the flavor. See what one small child surrounded by pumpkins and black crows proclaims:

"All the signs of HALLOWEEN
Seem to be about me.
I send this card CAWS I love you.
Now really - can you doubt me?"

In "Spooks and Witches are Busy Tonight" an anxious child gazes on a downcast pumpkin aware that:

"Spooks and Witches are Busy Tonight,
Anxious to put good children to fright;
Let's get together to ward off the charm,
Laugh and be merry, and forget all alarm."

Flash Halloween Cards

After an antique introduction, lets come right up to date with some modern flash cards. You can find these at http://www.halloween4u.com/
There's quite a good selection, but they do take a few seconds to load. Look out for the screams to get you in the mood.

For a gentle start try the groovey skele-tones. Watch the three bone group perform before your eyes. This ones fun but certainly not scary.

A Fang-tastic Halloween Wish is the next one you should see. This is more like it! A haunted house, thunder and lightening and black bats that you can almost feel as they seem to fly right past your head. Watch out for the fangs at the end.

Now for a really scary one - a Hair-raising Wish. The Grim Reaper appears and knocks on your window to deliver his chilling wish. Watch out for the blood dripping from his scythe. Not sure how many friends you will have left if you send them one of these.

To bring you back to earth here's a simple game with a gentle honky-tonk accompaniment. Just add the eyes, nose and mouth to make your own pumpkin.

Collectors' Halloween Cards

Although the earliest halloween cards are now collector's items, there are several sites where you can find copies which can be sent as e-cards. One of these is http://www.shaktiweb.com/ where you will find a charming collection of antique cards. These were designed for younger children so are not too scary. One shows a witch on her broomstick with the rhyme:

"If I were a witch upon a big switch,
A riding through the air,
I'd fly all around, then drop to the ground,
And give you an awful scare."

Rather more scary is one showing a young lad running away with a stolen pumpkin being chased by black-booted ghost.

"Halloween Pleasures" tells how:

"Of all the fun and merry jest,
To bob for apples is the best".

One last from this collection, and perhaps the scariest, shows a boy leaping in fright at the sight of a goblin with a pumpkin head with legend:

"I'm not afraid of spooks. Are you?
I'm just pretending they are true."

Halloween Cards

If you search for halloween cards at Google you will won't be given an exact number of results - "about 25,000,000" is what shows up. Clearly halloween cards are very popular and have been so for around a hundred years. In the beginning these were picture postcards produced between 1905-1915. There were hundreds of different designs but they were based on the themes that are common today of witches on broomsticks, skeletons, pumpkins and black cats. Nowadays cardshops have a huge selection at this time of year, and free e-cards are offered by countless sites online. Follow me as I review the online halloween cards and tell you those I like and those that turn me off.
